Brisbane Racing Club Awards Top Gong

The race has just passed the winning post in the Brisbane Metropolitan premiership for jockeys, trainers and apprentices, and the winners awarded by the Brisbane Racing Club.

For the Jockey Premiership, after a slight lead, Stathi Katsidis was joined by Larry Cassidy both finishing with an equal 72 wins. As outlined for the premiership, if two contenders finish on the same number of season wins, the title will be shared.

The Trainer Premiership was taken out by Robert Heathcote, and Michael Helyer took out the Apprentice Premiership. This year the BRC has made the decision to ensure this year's winners are officially recognised for their accomplishments.

''It seems only fair there should be some recognition for the best performed trainer, jockey and apprentice and the BRC which conducts the vast majority of the races involved in the premiership race is delighted to offer the trophies,'' BRC chairman Kevin Dixon said yesterday.

''We will provide the trophies for the 2009-10 season which fittingly was the first under the BRC banner.''

The BRC will also continue the BRC Jockey Medal award in addition to the Metropolitan Premierships, where a panel of three judges allocate points on a 3-2-1 basis for the best ride at each Saturday and public holiday meeting conducted at Eagle Farm and Doomben.
