Brisbane Racing Club dominates Racing Awards
The Australian Racecourse Manager’s Association (ARMA) last night awarded two of its most prestigious accolades to staff of the Brisbane Racing Club (BRC), in recognition of their excellence in racecourse management.
The Brisbane Racing Club’s Assistant Racecourse Manager, Sean Bridges, received the Steriline Racing ARMA Scholarship for his leadership, management ability, initiative and strong passion for the racing industry.
In his current role at the Brisbane Racing Club, Bridges has displayed innovation in his modeling and his study of ‘lane bias’. Bridges provides the most transparent and comprehensive track rating data of any Australian racecourse for all BRC race meetings. This data is available on www.brc.com.au prior to each race meeting.
Bridges is thrilled to receive the $10,000 scholarship which will see him study all aspects of racecourse management operations at the Hong Kong Jockey Club later this year.
“The visit to Hong Kong Jockey Club will allow me to gain working knowledge from one of the most prestigious racecourses in the world.
“This will assist my current work at the Brisbane Racing Club and, most significantly, my involvement in implementing the multi million dollar master plan which will see upgrades to the tracks and facilities at both Eagle Farm and Doomben Racecourses,” said Mr Bridges.
Brisbane Racing Club General Manager – Venues & Risk Management, Warren Williams, was awarded the evening’s highest honour, “Australian Racecourse Manager of the Year”, for his contribution, involvement, knowledge and commitment in the field of racecourse management.
Second time winner, Williams was surprised to receive the award.
“I was shocked with the decision as I thought there were many colleagues and candidates worthy of winning.
“I am thankful to the Brisbane Racing Club for their support and to Queensland Racing as a whole for supporting myself and the industry to move forward,” said Mr Williams.
Williams has been Racecourse Manager in Brisbane for the last 15 years. He also spent ten years at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne.
He has shown total commitment to the industry and the ARMA assisting in the development of track work staff, both at a training and advisory level.
Brisbane Racing Club Chairman, Kevin Dixon, today congratulated Bridges and Williams for their outstanding performance.
“I am extremely proud of both Sean and Warren for their achievements. Along with Bill Shuck, we have a fantastic team managing our tracks and venues.
“And what a fantastic coup for racing in Queensland, with two BRC staff taking out the major awards in Australian racecourse management” said Mr Dixon.
