Legends past and present at the track this Saturday
The horses are the stars at the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 raceday this Saturday 29 May 2010.
Known as the “classic” raceday the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 is all about the racing and is one of the most highly bet on, attended and prestigious races of the Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival.
The Doomben 10,000 feature race is a Group 1 Australian thoroughbred Weight for Age race run over a distance of 1350 metres and is the premier sprint event of the Brisbane Racing Carnival.
Named the 10,000 after the 10,000 pounds prize money originally offered, the 2010 Doomben 10,000 is shaping up to be a strong field of hopefuls eager to cement their names in racing history – and collect the $650,000 prize money on offer.
Whilst the Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 promises heart-pumping racing action, it’s a special equine legend that will bring the crowd to their feet.
Emotions will run high when 2007 Doomben 10,000 champion and Australian equine super-star Takeover Target, returns to Doomben to lead the field onto the track.
The 10-year-old gelding which catapulted owner/trainer Joe Janiak, a former taxi driver, to international fame, will be trackside as a special guest of the carnival.
The story of Takeover Target captured the hearts of both racing and non-racing fans the world over. Bought by Joe for $1375, Takeover Target went on to win over $6million in prize money and a legion of fans.
Takeover Target was retired last year after he sustained a career ending leg injury when he put his foot in a hole after passing the winning post.
The public will be able to get up close to this retired champion of the turf at a special “tie-up” stall.
Aside from the epic racing the atmosphere on Doomben 10,00 Day will be abuzz with great hospitality including the Style Magazines Fashions Marquee ($185) and the Hometurn Party ($155) the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Couples Catergory Fashions on the Field and off field entertainment .
And it’s not just the equine athletes who will battle it out for track supremacy on Saturday. The popular Mascot Race is back with 17 confirmed mascots racing to win $5,000 cash for their nominated charity. Entrants include Captain Cactus from The Royal Children’s Hospital, Quackers from The PA Research Foundation, Flossy from the Make a Wish Foundation and Mr Rental (funds to go to the Cancer Council).
Tickets are just $25 through Ticketek or you can pick them up at the Gate.
