Media Release: Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival – Calendar of Events

From May 15 through until June 12, Australia’s premium racing will be played out in Brisbane at Eagle Farm and Doomben Racecourses as part of the much heralded Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival.

More than 50,000 racing fans will attend the five glamour racing events to witness first-hand the blockbuster races and see Australia’s stars of the turf.

From May 15 through until June 12, Australia’s premium racing will be played out in Brisbane at Eagle Farm and Doomben Racecourses as part of the much heralded Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival.

More than 50,000 racing fans will attend the five glamour racing events to witness first-hand the blockbuster races and see Australia’s stars of the turf.

To compliment the racing, there are a variety of events for all to enjoy.

Saturday 15 May – Racefest

The Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival kicks off with Racefest, the ideal event for anyone seeking a side of party with their main of Group 1 racing. The event headliners will be the Group 1 BTC Cup and Vanessa Amorosi live in concert. Other highlights will include judging of the Hardy Bros & Moreton South Institute of TAFE Fashions on the Field – Student Design Category and a Cocktail Bar. Complimentary transport will be provided to the Racefest Official After Party.

Saturday 22 May – Kirks Doomben Cup Day

A full day of star studded entertainment the whole family will enjoy including Packed to the Rafters’ Jessica Marais and James Stewart signing autographs, a thrilling vertical drop with the Bat Tower! Kids can also bop to the beat in the Bounce Club Disco and enter the Pumpkin Patch Fashions on the Field. The best thing about Kirks Doomben Cup Day is the FREE entry for kids and unlimited free fun. Racing fans will enjoy the blockbuster racing on track.

Saturday 29 May – Carlton Draught Doomben 10,000 Day

A classic day of racing entertainment, the Carlton Draught Doomben 10,000 is among the very best races on the Australian calendar. Boasting an honour roll comprising Takeover Target and Apache Cat, the Carlton Draught Doomben 10,000 will promise heart-pumping action for all those who bear witness. Aside from the epic racing, the atmosphere on Doomben 10,000 Day will be abuzz with great hospitality, the Hardy Bros Jewellers Fashions on the Field and entertainment.

Thursday 3 June – Hats & High Tea with Peter Jago

New for 2010, this event is for the ladies to indulge in exquisite millinery. Held in conjunction with the Queensland Art Gallery’s exclusive Hats exhibition, guests will enjoy High Tea lunch with champagne on arrival and millinery style tips from industry expert Peter Jago. Hosted by Seven presenter Sofie Formica, the highlight of this event will be wandering through the ‘Hats: An Anthology by Stephen Jones’ and adoring the beautiful millinery on display.

Saturday 5 June – Treasury Casino QLD Oaks Ladies’ Day

Treasury Casino QLD Oaks Day is popularly known as the ladies’ day of the Brisbane’s Racing Carnival. The entertainment highlight is the Group 1 Treasury Casino QLD Oaks for three-year-old fillies but the event also boasts a sharp fashion focus with MYER Fashions on the Field and the 2nd annual Millinery Award. Other features include a pamper tent and Cosmopolitan Cocktail Bar.

The Annual Racing Mass will be attended by the racing fraternity including bookmakers and bagmen, punters and pencillers, jockeys and trainers and other racing industry figures. The mass is offered for the well-being of players in Brisbane’s racing Grand Final week. A complimentary morning tea will be served after the Mass.

Tuesday 8 June – AAMI Breakfast with the Stars

See Australasia’s biggest turf stars at one of their final training sessions before Brisbane’s racing Grand Final – the AAMI Stradbroke. Commentated by Wayne Wilson, this is a unique “behind the scenes” racing experience which the whole family can enjoy. A free hot breakfast will be served too.

Watch the Barrier Draw for the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap live at Doomben Racecourse and be one of the first to know how the field is shaping up for Brisbane’s racing Grand Final.

Join hundreds of guests at Eagle Farm to celebrate the anticipation of the State’s racing Grand Final – the AAMI Stradbroke – and the closing of the Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival. A night of tantalising canapés, flowing champagne, great live music and dancing beneath the stars – it’s always a night to remember.

Brisbane’s racing Grand Final will be electric this year with the 120th running of the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap. The world’s best horses, jockeys and trainers will compete at Eagle Farm in Australia’s premier sprint handicap, each vying for the $1 million cash prize.
