Nervous wait for numbers ahead of AAMI Stradbroke Handicap Barrier Draw

The crucial drawing of the barriers for those horses competing in the Group 1, $1 million AAMI Stradbroke Handicap will be held in the Mounting Yard at Eagle Farm Racecourse on Wednesday 9 June at 12pm.

Officiated by Queensland Racing stewards and hosted by The Courier-Mail's Bart Sinclair, the all-important Barrier Draw will be attended by the country's racing elite.

The AAMI Stradbroke Handicap, the headline race at Saturday 12 June's AAMI Stradbroke Day is Australia's premier sprint race that attracts Australasia's finest jockeys, trainers and horses.

The Barrier Draw is a critical factor in the running of the AAMI Stradbroke Handicap, Queensland's top racing event, where every starter is a potential winner.

An outstanding field of horses in 2010 has resulted in an increased anticipation in this year's draw.

Owners and trainers of the final field of 18 horses, (18 starters and 5 emergencies) hope to draw the right number at Wednesday's Barrier Draw, giving their horse the best possible start.

This year owners or trainers may choose based on their favourite painted horse following the inaugural AAMI Stradbroke Paint a Horse Competition where 24 primary schools from all over Qld decorated a life size fibre glass horse in a theme centred around the historic race. Visitors to AAMI Stradbroke Day on Saturday 12 June will have the opportunity to admire the horses which will be on show at various points around the track.

More than 20,000 people are expected at Eagle Farm on Saturday to witness the running of this years' historic 120th AAMI Stradbroke Handicap.
