Race Clubs unite to raise funds for Central Queensland Racing Participants

The worst affected racing industry participants in Central Queensland will be the focus of a fundraiser arranged by the Brisbane Racing Club (BRC), Gold Coast Turf Club, Sunshine Coast Turf Club and Toowoomba Turf Club to be held on Thursday, January 27 at the Hilton Brisbane.

Hosted by Seven presenter Pat Welsh, guests can enjoy an entertaining evening with one of Queensland’s and the nation’s most outstanding jockeys, Mick Dittman and Rugby League great Allan Langer.

The Hon. Robert Schwarten MP, Minister for Public Works and Information and Communication Technology and the Member for Rockhampton has agreed to giving his full support by being the event Patron.

BRC Chairman, Kevin Dixon said, all funds raised will go towards those in the Queensland regional racing community who have been worst affected by floods.

“The impact of the floods on the racing fraternity in country Queensland is devastating, in particular in Rockhampton where racing has been shut down indefinitely.

“For participants such as racehorse trainers, owners and jockeys, being able to race and train horses is their livelihood. With Rockhampton’s racetrack, Callaghan Park, under water there is a big question mark hanging over the heads of these people right now.

“A Committee has been formed to focus on allocating funds to those members of the racing fraternity who are found to be most in need because of the impact of this natural disaster. The Committee will be made up of Rockhampton Jockey Club Chairman, Justin Doyle, Wayne Wilson and Dr Peter Dunbar.

“It is critical that we all pitch in to assist, particularly when disasters such as these strike. Through this event, we hope South East Queensland racing fans get behind the fundraiser and help to raise much needed funds for those suffering hardship,” said Mr Dixon.

Tickets to the fundraiser are $150 ($140 for Race Club Members) and include a three course dinner and drinks package. All profits from ticket sales will be distributed to the racing fraternity by the committee.

Raffles and auctions will be run on the night to assist in raising additional funds.
