Hearts, heels, hoofs, hair… you name it and it was flying on Saturday at Eagle Farm
It was a field of frocked up fillies that took to the track on Saturday at Eagle Farm for the much anticipated B105 Running of the Brides.
Chief Stewards Labby, Camilla and Stav guided the sea of brides to the starting gates, ready to chase the eligible bachelor, Daniel from Holland Park, down the home straight to snag a trip for two to Las Vegas.
Had a form guide been provided, the smart money would surely have been on Rebecca from Mansfield, who caught Daniel well before the finishing post (her ‘last starts’ include a Silver Medal in the 400m Hurdles at the State Championships).
However the Valentine’s Day treats didn’t stop there when Kirstie Arrowfield drew Rebecca in the Running of the Brides Sweepstakes. Fortunately for Kirstie, Rebecca pipped all the other brides to snag our bachelor and as a result, she has also won a trip for two to Las Vegas.
Seventeen year old local top jockey Tim Bell set the hearts of aptly named Rare Diamond’s connections racing, as the combination coasted home to the Mare’s third consecutive win in the 1600m Race 1 on Saturday. Trainer Gordon Yorke suggested the mare is now headed for a spell, in preparation for a return to black type races in the winter.
Eagle Farm Trainer Kelly Schweida may just have unearthed another potential star, with Larry Cassidy riding Unsupervised to a comfortable win in the 1200m Race 6.
