Racecourse Village Shopping Centre now open

Tuesday, 31 July 2018

The Brisbane Racing Club has delivered another major milestone in the overall BRC Master Plan.

At 5pm Tuesday 31 July, Racecourse Village Shopping Centre opened on Nudgee Rd. It’s a modern shopping and lifestyle complex that fully developed and owned by the Brisbane Racing Club. This blue-chip commercial asset was funded by the Club and has a completed value of approximately $40 million. The Club will retain ownership of Racecourse Village and will ensure all income generated by the centre will add to the essential non-racing revenue stream that is now materialising from the Master Plan. This diversified business plan is critical to the future sustainability of the Brisbane Racing Club.

Several years ago, our Members voted to unlock the value of the BRC land that was not central to racing purposes. Our Master Plan emerged from that Members’ vote, to be rolled out on the 11.4 hectares of non-core racing land from our 84ha of land across Eagle Farm and Doomben.
The Master Plan has been taking shape with the recent opening of Ascot House – the first residential tower in the Ascot Green development – and last year’s opening of Ascot Childcare and Kindy on Lancaster Rd.

We are also partnering with Lendlease to deliver a retirement and aged care facility on Doomben’s southeast corner. This is an exciting time for BRC Members and the local community. We will always be a racing club – that has been our driving force for more than a century and it will remain our key focus. But we want to future-proof our racing activities through our Master Plan. We encourage everyone to visit Racecourse Village, which opened for its first full day of trading on Wednesday, 1 August 2018.

Here are the key features of Racecourse Village:

• The most modern Woolworths supermarket in Australia. This is a revolutionary Woolworths store, with features not seen in other supermarkets. The 3800m2 store has been designed on feedback from shoppers throughout the country.
• 12 specialty outlets on the ground floor and six tenancies on the first floor
• A mixture of food outlets and services including a pharmacy, dentist, pathology, physiotherapy and Pilates.
• Racecourse Village will be professionally managed by Savills on behalf of the BRC
• The retail and carparking areas are on one level. There is no basement carparking and no travelators
• Shade strictures in the car park
• High-level brick and tile finishes to complement Eagle Farm Racecourse
• $700,000 of solar panels on the roof demonstrating the BRC's environmental commitment.

I thank our inaugural tenants for their support of Racecourse Village. We are grateful to Woolworths for their cooperation during the construction phase. We look forward to a long partnership with one of Australia’s best-known brands.
