Trial Form for Runners on Saturday 4 November 2017

The following runners engaged today at Doomben have recently trialled in the South East Queensland area. Below is an alphabetical listing, summary of the trial together with a comment on their chances today.

Blackjack Bella – Race 4

Brooklyn Storm – Race 5

Ef Troop – Race 1

Magnatune – Race 7

Miss Miao – Race 8

Montauk – Race 7

Monteux – Race 3

Spring Tycoon – Race 9

Torgersen – Race 7

Race 1 11.50am Padua Old Boys 2yo Colts and Geldings Handicap 1050m.

No.3 Ef Troop – (T. Gollan) – 1st (8.5L) 31/10 Doomben 840m 2yo trial Good (TR 107)

Jumped ok, quickly mustered speed crossed and led 3 lengths. Extended the margin running to the home turn, cornered at least 6 lengths clear only really coasting along, given an easy time all the way to the line.

First start. 70K Spirit Of Boom gelding from a dam who has only produced the two to race with one being a winner (Muchas Coronas). Could not have been any more impressive in the trial here on Tuesday and ran outstanding time for a 2yo heat. Likely to be a long way in front of the favourite Hopes Eternal in the run and will take plenty of running down.

Race 3 1.10am Lite ‘n’ Easy Benchmark 80 Handicap 2040m.

No.3 Monteux – (C. Meagher) – 6th (8.3L) 31/10 Doomben 1000m Open trial Good (TR 109)

Jumped ok, no rush as expected settling back at the tail 7 lengths off the lead. Brought right to the outside rounding home turn, held ground down to the line being given an easy time.

Freshened (28 days). Liked his last run at the Gold Coast making ground in a race not really run to suit. Had the benefit of the trial which was just to keep him rolling along and can certainly figure in the placings.

Race 4 1.55pm Weareco Fillies and Mares Class 6 Handicap 1350m.

No.1 Blackjack Bella – (D. Vandyke) – 5th (3.6L) 24/10 Sun Coast 1270m Open trial Heavy (TR N/A)

Missed the start 2 lengths quickly tacked on to settle second last 5 lengths off the lead. Away from the fence brought 3 wide into the straight closing ground under own steam, 2 lengths away 200m made no further headway however given an easy time throughout.

Resuming (126 days). Very consistent mare who only missed a cheque twice in 9 outings last campaign. She has won when fresh however generally takes a run, wide draw doesn’t make it any easier here.

Race 5 2.38pm The Aitkenvale Family Health Care Centre Open Handicap 1050m.

No.5 Brooklyn Storm – (M. Costa) – 4th (1.3L) 31/10 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Good (TR 89)

Jumped well, didn’t look for the lead easing to settle behind the leader holding the fence 2 lengths away. Plenty of room to come through underneath into the straight, basically held ground given an easy time by jockey Scott Galloway.

Freshened (42 days). Kept very fresh off the first up performance when almost landed the win at Ipswich coming through along the inside. Plenty of speed engaged in this race suggests he’ll give away a big start, likely to be too big to overcome.

Race 7 4.08pm Padua College Open Handicap 1640m.

No.1 Torgersen – (C. Waller) – 5th (1.7L) 31/10 Gold Coast 1000m Open trial Good (TR 89)

Jumped ok, went back soon after settling down last off the fence 6 lengths from the leader. Under a decent hold still last into the straight, closed off very nicely between runners basically all under his own steam, plenty more to offer.

Freshened (28 days). Clocked fast time running down Dreams Aplenty at the Gold Coast a month back which followed his solid first local start here the run prior. Interesting to note he’s yet to win beyond 1400m however the trial was very soft and I wouldn’t be leaving him out at all.

No.3 Montauk – (C. Waller) – 3rd (2.3L) 10/10 Gold Coast 900m Class 1-5 trial Good (TR 106)

Jumped ok, drifted back settling down 3rd last fence around 5 lengths from the lead. Stayed inside rounding the turn and closed the trial off nicely picking up ground under no urgings from jockey Michael Cahill.

Resuming (114 days). Another of the Waller team sent north. Best form is over longer distances however he can pull out a run fresh and did make tidy late ground in a solidly run trial. Definite betting watch however well worth including in exotics.

No.8 Magnatune – (G. Duncan) – 3rd (0.2L) 24/10 Sunshine Coast 1270m Open trial Heavy (TR N/A)

Jumped ok, settled down 4th off the fence 4 lengths from the leader. Pushed along into the straight picking up ground between runners, challenging leader 150m, kept coming along the fence to just miss out.

Resuming (154 days). Unplaced all 6 first up attempts to date and best form over longer journeys. Put under plenty of pressure in the trial and will likely need the hit out here.

Race 8 4.53pm Mt Alvernia College 3yo Handicap 1350m.

No.11 Miss Miao – (G. Taylor) – 1st (2.3L) 24/10 Sun Coast 1270m Mdn-Class 2 trial Heavy (TR N/A)

Jumped well, restrained immediately settled down last early however with no speed on pulled her way to 2nd 2 lengths away. Levelled up into the straight under a big hold, ran clear soon after given a few flicks on the way to the line.

Resuming (107 days). Lightly raced filly who made up for a luckless run at the Sunshine Coast to win easily at Rockhampton before heading for a break. Looks to have good ability however this is a tough ask at this stage.

Race 9 5.30pm T. H. Cock Pty Ltd Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 6 Handicap 1350m.

No.8 Spring Tycoon – (S. Kendrick) – 1st (0.1L) 24/10 Sun Coast 1270m Open trial Heavy (TR N/A)

Jumped well, steadily found the front running 4 lengths clear settling down. Margin halved into the straight only coasting though, led marginally 100m still not let down, held on to score narrowly given a very easy time all the way.

Freshened (28 days). Drove through along the fence late to score here 3 starts back in a suitably run slow race. Excuses at Ipswich before outclassed at Randwick. Coasted home in the trial and races well on the fresh side. Definitely worth including.
