How to bet

There are two ways to bet at Brisbane Racing Club race courses:

  1. At a Totalisator (TOTE), or
  2. With a Bookmaker.

Betting with the Tote

Go to any Tote window and give the operator:

  • Venue & race number (e.g. Doomben, Race 2)
  • Type of bet (see below for common bet types), and
  • Your investment (e.g. $2).

Betting with a Bookmaker

Choose the Bookmaker offering the best price for the horse you wish to back, and give your Bookie:

  • The name of the horse
  • Type of bet (see below), and
  • Your investment.

Common bet types

  • Win - pick the horse you think will finish first in the race.
  • Place - pick a horse you think will finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the race.
  • Each Way - a combination of the ‘Win’ and ‘Place’ bets; if your horse wins, you collect both a win and place dividend or if your horse places 2nd or 3rd you collect the place dividend only.
  • Trifecta - pick the horses that will finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a race, in the correct finishing order.
