Dave Whimpey 

Position: CEO

Dave has a diverse background in finance and operations in senior executive positions within companies such as Hilton, Jupiters, KPMG, Tabcorp and Coles.

With a corporate career spanning 20 plus years in finance and operations, a leader of teams of up to 3,000 staff with $400m budgets, Dave’s various expertise along with his hands on approach are well suited to transform the BRC. 

Dave holds a Masters in Business Administration from Surrey university (UK) while studying at Bond University in their affiliate program.

James Versace

Position: Chief Financial Officer

James is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and has a Commerce degree majoring in Finance & Accounting, and law.

He comes with over 20 years’ experience in providing strategic counsel, executive leadership, financial risk management and profit maximisation strategies for companies in Australia and overseas. James spent 12 years with The Star Entertainment Group an ASX listed top 100 company, where for the majority of the time he was General Manager of Finance Treasury Hotel and Casino Brisbane.

He also spent several years in Investment banking in London and Sydney with Credit Suisse First Boston.

Paul Williams

Position: General Manager - Operations

Paul has over 25 years’ experience in hospitality management including senior management roles within companies Rosewood Hotels & Resorts in the Middle East, Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre and the Stanley Hotel and Suites hotel in Papua New Guinea.

With experience managing multi outlets including Events for the Saudi Arabian King, Crown Prince, Royal Palaces and International Embassies, Paul is equipped to deliver outstanding customer experiences at Brisbane Racing Club.

Matt Rudolph

Position: General Manager - Racing

After completing a Bachelor of Commerce at University of Queensland, Matt set about fulfilling his passion for thoroughbreds working for Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductees Widden Stud, William Inglis & Son Bloodstock Auctioneers as well as Keeneland in Kentucky USA, prior to joining the Australian Turf Club as Executive General Manager of Racing.

Matt was integral to the branding and launch of “The Championships” at Royal Randwick and travelled to the world’s leading racing jurisdictions to recruit international horses from Europe, Japan and Hong Kong. Matt returned to Queensland in September, 2017 to join the BRC and is an avid bloodstock enthusiast, still attending many sales whilst also keeping in touch with industry issues.

Katie Churchill

Position: General Manager - Sales & Marketing

Katie has a Bachelor of Business majoring in Events Management and has recently completed her Masters of Business Administration (MBA).

Katie has been employed with the Brisbane Racing Club (initially the Queensland Turf Club) for ten years during which time she has developed a strong track record for exceeding targets and consistently leading innovation. With her years of experience, she has a robust understanding of the business and is also now the proud part owner of two racehorses.

Scott Steele

Position: Strategic Business Development

Scott has over 20 years’ experience in hospitality management including senior management roles with several leading Queensland Clubs. He is also a current Queensland committee member of the Club Managers Association of Australia.

A keen racing enthusiast, Scott has interests in both thoroughbred and standardbred ownership.



Michelle Williams - Human Resource Manager | Brisbane Racing Club

Michelle Williams

Position: Manager - Human Resources

Michelle has a diverse range in Senior Executive positions with different organisations, cultures and modalities within companies such as Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, The Golden Door Health Retreat, Centacare Family & Community Services, British Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Stanley Hotel & Suites in Papua New Guinea.

Michelle is highly skilled in the development and implementation of effective human resources frameworks, policies and procedures that ensures ability to attract, retain, develop and manage a highly engaged and committed work force.
