BRC Staff Upskill with Leading Beverage Suppliers

Friday 28 February 2020

In February 2020, over 130 BRC staff completed professional development workshops with four leading beverage suppliers and hosted by specialist bar instructors. The training is part of the BRC's ongoing commitment to improving the Club's food and beverage service.

SPIRITS

Diageo Bar Academy took staff on a “spirit” journey around the world. They were educated with stories and facts on the spirit production basics, how to identify key flavour category characteristics and building knowledge on drink recommendations. Staff were introduced to Vodka, Gin, Scotch Whisky, Rum, Tequila & North American Whiskey.

WINE & SPARKLING

Samuel Smith & Son introduced the staff to some of the most popular wine offerings at BRC and explained the origins of each wine, how they should be served, ideal food pairings and providing very useful tasting notes that will ensure staff are confident in offering and recommending specific wines to our guests.

CHAMPAGNE

Moet Hennessy's head trainer Chris provided hands on training for the staff on how to open, care, store and pour quality champagne, and included tastings of Chandon Rose, Chandon S, NV Brut, Moet Imperial, Moet Ice.

BEER

Lion provided knowledge about its current beer offerings that are sold at the BRC and given opportunity to taste the 4 largest selling beers on offer at BRC - XXXX Gold, KIRIN, Furphy and James Squire 150 Lashes. The taps were turned on and the “perfect pour” explained and demonstrated. Staff were given opportunity to also try their hands at achieving that perfect balance of cold liquid gold & a frothy silk head -  explaining the reasoning for the froth is more than for aesthetics, but accentuates the beer aromatics and delivers a richer, fuller mouthfeel. Further training will be scheduled ahead of Paddyfest in March for the perfect Guinness pour, and will explore the origins of Queensland beer at the XXXX Brewery.

BARISTA TRAINING

Grinders Coffee completed onsite training with some of our Baristas, located in the Grinders Café in Stradbroke Plaza at Eagle Farm. The staff practiced perfecting their techniques by taking order and providing barista quality coffees.

WORK EXPERIENCE  -  HOSPITALITY STUDENTS

The BRC has recently partnered with Brisbane Business & Hospitality Training (BBHT) who host their Certificate III Hospitality Training sessions at Eagle Farm in the Mittys Trainers Bar. The most recent group of students were trained onsite over a 2 week period and on their graduation day they toured Eagle Farm facilities and were given an insight in to the offering we provide our members and customers. This relationship with the BBHT is a positive step forward for the BRC, being able to train new staff in a variety of roles and function spaces to really help them to succeed to their highest potential within the hospitality industry.
