Anna's favourite Stradbroke Handicap memory:
"The first time I attended the Stradbroke Cup many years ago, was also my first race day experience and I was hooked. I had been invited by a young man to be his date for the day. He mentioned that I needed to dress in appropriate race wear attire as we would be in the Members' enclosure. I had just finished university so I did not have a lot of money to purchase a new outfit. Therefore, I took my car (maroon Holden Torana) to the wreckers and received $200 cash for it. I then went shopping and bought myself a new grey wool suit and felt hat to wear to the Stradbroke Cup. Not only was my date impressed, but I had the best day of my life. I learned how to bet and even had a small win. I have been attending the races at Eagle Farm and Doomben ever since. Stradbroke Day has become a yearly social event for myself, my family and my friends and I am excited to say that my son is now able to attend as a young BRC member. Whilst the grey woollen suit is no longer in fashion, I have kept it as it reminds me of this life changing experience."
