2019 Winter Racing Carnival champions firm favourites for Cup Week!

Eagle Farm Racecourse is preparing for the excitement of Cup Week with events coinciding with the Victoria Derby meeting this Saturday, and on Tuesday with Melbourne Cup Day.
The spring has provided us with our first look at the positive impact of our 2019 Brisbane Racing Carnival as a host of graduates achieve success in the southern carnivals.
The Victoria Derby favourite Shadow Hero, already the winner of the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, has continued to improve since he won the Listed Phoenix at Doomben before finishing fourth in the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm.
Nature Strip (Moir Stakes), Kolding (Epsom Hcp) and Fierce Impact (Toorak Hcp) have also won Group 1 spring races while Trekking, Savatiano, California Zimbol, Princess Jenni, Madam Rouge and Diamond Thunder have won black-type spring races after their Brisbane visits. JJ Atkins placegetter Kubrick took out the first running of the Bondi Stakes last weekend.
The impact of the Brisbane Racing Carnival extends to the Melbourne Cup with Vow And Declare – a placegetter in the Queensland Derby before winning the Tattersall’s Cup – among the favourites for the race. Youngstar is also on track for the Cup after her second consecutive Brisbane visit.
A scan of the fields for Flemington and Rosehill on Saturday shows 40 horses that raced in the Brisbane winter including eight runners in the Redzel Stakes, six runners in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes, five runners in the Rosehill Gold Cup, four runners in the Golden Eagle and two runners in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes.
We wish our Queensland horses racing interstate the best of luck including Tyzone (TAB Stakes, Flemington), Baccarat Baby (Empire Rose Stakes, Flemington), Ruuca (Coolmore Stud Stakes, Flemington), Pippie and Spirit’s Choice (Furphy Sprint), and Winning Ways and The Candy Man (Rosehill Gold Cup).
