BRC helping kick goals through community sponsorship

Brisbane Racing Club and its Gallopers Sports Club are proud to be supporting the Norths Rugby Club to kick goals this season with a new sponsorship.

Norths General Manager Nigel Statham welcomed the sponsorship, the first the club has secured that focuses on both its Senior and Junior players.

“We appreciate community sponsorships like this from Brisbane Racing Club and Gallopers,” Mr Statham said. “They are an investment in rugby, in fielding our teams and helping our focus on developing and expanding our players’ skills.

“We are very much a community club, with many generations of families enjoying the game together. We welcome players from all backgrounds and abilities and sponsorships open up opportunities for us to continue to grow.”

Norths has a rich, 95-year history in Brisbane rugby union, with former Wallaby Chris Roche (17 caps in the 1980s) among notable players to come through its ranks.

The club is fielding seven Seniors teams this year, in Queensland Premier Rugby, Colts Rugby and the Women’s Premier Rugby competition, and multiple Juniors teams across all age groups.

Norths’ grounds at Wavell Heights were significantly affected by the widespread flooding in Brisbane last year, with floodwaters almost reaching the crossbar of the main field. But the damage was repaired and the club hosted a special family event at the first season home game on 1 April.

BRC Clubs General Manager Perran Sonnex said as well as providing the $13,000 sponsorship to Norths, BRC and Gallopers were discussing with the club a long-term relationship and other ways of providing support through events and racedays.

BRC’s Gallopers at Hamilton and its other community club, Souths Sports Club at Acacia Ridge, are not-for-profit clubs committed to contributing to local communities through sponsorship, donations, and providing for and maintaining sporting fields and facilities, such as for the Hamilton Bowls Club, Souths Juniors Magpies Rugby League, Acacia Ridge Bowls Club and Acacia Ridge Soccer Club. In 2021-22, the BRC Sports Clubs provided more than $400,000 of financial support.
