David Dawson's next chapter

POPULAR long-serving Brisbane Racing Club Director David Dawson has retired from his post on the Board.

Dawson was part of the inaugural BRC board when the club formed in 2008 and has been there since the first meeting was run under the merged club in July 2009.

Prior to that, Dawson served on the Committee of the Queensland Turf Club at Eagle Farm from 2005, acting as Treasurer from 2007 until the merger.

David has long had a reputation for being a strong advocate for members, with him recalling just how difficult it was to become a member of the QTC back in the halcyon days of racing through the 1960s and onwards.

He counts Tulloch’s 1961 Brisbane Cup as the best moment he has witnessed on a Brisbane racetrack, but recollects seeing all the champions over the years showcase their ability at Eagle Farm and Doomben.

David has also become prominent on social media, with his Twitter handle of “@placepunter” highlighting his liking for backing runners to ‘run the drum’ as opposed to winning outright.

“I guess it stems back to me getting sick of backing horses to win that ran second, so now they just run fourth!” Dawson says.

David will remain with the club in an ambassadorial role and he intends to maintain his regular appearance at Eagle Farm and Doomben each weekend the BRC races.

The process to appoint a replacement Director is underway.
