Doomben Will Host World Pool Meetings for the First Time in 2025 as The Star Stradbroke Season Goes Global

14 April 2025

The Star Stradbroke Season continues its global rise with nine races across three racedays to feature in the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) World Pool fixture in 2025.

Queensland’s premier racing carnival was included in the World Pool for the first time in 2024 and was an instant success, combining Ladbrokes Queensland Derby Day with the Epsom Derby Day in the UK to set a then-record turnover, with 12 races across the two racedays generating HK$385.2 million (approx. AUD$74.2m).

In 2025, a select number of prestigious races from Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 Day (17 May), XXXX Doomben Cup Day (24 May) and The Star Stradbroke Day (14 June) will form a total of nine events broadcast live to Hong Kong audiences and form one international parimutuel wagering pool for racing fans across the globe. Included amongst the nine races will be World Top 100 Group 1 races the Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 and The Star Stradbroke Handicap.

2025 marks the first time Doomben will feature in the World Pool fixture.

Race footage will be provided by BRC’s media rights partner Sky Racing.

The races on both Doomben 10,000 and Doomben Cup days will create international double events alongside black-type racing from Newbury (UK) and The Curragh (Ireland) respectively.

The Star Stradbroke Day will stand alone as the only World Pool fixture for 14 June.

Brisbane Racing Club CEO Karl deKroo said the additional racing and fixtures afforded to the club are a strong endorsement from the Hong Kong Jockey Club of the carnival.

“We’re grateful to HKJC CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and his team for their ongoing support in elevating The Star Stradbroke Season to the global stage through World Pool.

“World Pool is the most powerful vehicle we have to showcase Queensland racing to a truly global audience.

“This year, thanks to our media rights partner, Sky Racing, nine of our premier races will be beamed into more than 25 jurisdictions and viewed by millions of punters and racing fans worldwide.

“We value the continuous support from Tabcorp and Sky Racing, who provide the wagering and video infrastructure critical to this initiative.

“The Star Stradbroke Season is not only renowned for the quality of its racing but for the incredible depth of its fields — a point clearly demonstrated in this Saturday’s Doomben 10,000, where the best established and emerging sprinters from around the country will go head-to-head.”

“Our partnership with the HKJC continues to grow, and we’re proud to reach a major milestone with Doomben included in the World Pool schedule for the first time — a significant achievement for our club and our state.”

“World Pool delivers enormous benefits through global wagering liquidity, unprecedented international exposure, and stronger collaboration between racing jurisdictions.”

“It has already shown its potential, with last year’s then-record turnover result across Queensland Derby and Epsom Derby Day proving the strength of international integration.”
