Doomben Wrap-up - Saturday 13 Nov, 2021

Doomben provided a taste of what is to come through December with a stellar day of racing on Saturday, highlighted by Tambo’s Mate winning the Keith Noud Stakes.

It gave Tony Gollan a fourth straight win in the race and Tambo’s Mate his third black type success at Doomben.

It was also a treble on the day for Gollan, who had won earlier with talented mares Lyrical Girl and Salateen.

Heavy rain forecasts had threatened the Doomben meeting, but Doomben Racecourse Manager Ross Smith and his track team were blessed after missing the biggest downpour Thursday night and after a recent track renovation, the surface performed brilliantly, being upgraded to a Soft 6 after the first event and improving right throughout the day.

Me Me Lagarde is one runner to follow out of the meeting after she arrived in time to win first up for the Toby and Trent Edmonds stable in Gerry Harvey’s racing colours.

The Chris Waller stable landed a winner when one-time renowned non-winner Kubrick made it back-to-back wins with a dominant display in the XXXX Dry Handicap.

Southern Rock took out the staying event for Matty Dunn and OTI Racing, while Paul Nolan Junior landed a knockout blow to punters when Don’t Stop clung on to win the final event.

Local trainers Kelly Schweida (Sienna’s Choice) and Les Ross (Mishani Mental) were also among the winners on a ripping good day of spring racing.

Saturday racing in Brisbane now takes a two-week hiatus, before returning to Doomben on December 4 for the running of the Group 3 George Moore Stakes as we begin the Road to Magic Millions.

Eagle Farm will then return for December 11 and 18 before The Boxing Day-New Year’s Day double at Doomben.
