Eagle Farm Wrap-Up - Canadian Club Melbourne Cup Raceday

On a day that will forever be remembered for Verry Elleegant’s remarkable 10th Group 1 victory, Melbourne Cup winning trainer Chris Waller also had a day out at Eagle Farm, claiming a treble on Canadian Club Melbourne Cup Raceday.

The champion trainer, who is a valued supporter of the Brisbane Racing Club’s Stradbroke Season and a long-time supporter of Queensland racing, trained over 60 runners during the Winter Carnival, including Group 1 Queensland Derby Winner, Kukeracha.

Yesterday a 7,000 strong crowd gathered at headquarters for a competitive eight race card and to watch the race that stops a nation on the biggest screen in the Southern Hemisphere.

Favourite backers were on good terms with themselves, with five of the eight races taken out by market fancies.

No win was more dominant than the Waller trained Caboche, who blitzed his rivals by six-and-a-half lengths, notching his maiden victory in the first event of the day.

Waller struck again in the third race with Malibu Blaze and Khaalis running the quinella in the Benchmark 65 staying contest, fitting given the champion trainer was about to land the most famous staying contest of them all at Flemington.

Less than two hours after winning Australia’s greatest race, Waller was at it again claiming the fifth race at Eagle Farm.

In-form jockey Jimmy Orman expertly steered Karlstad to a convincing one-and-three-quarter length victory, giving the Waller stable some nice icing on the cake of what was no doubt one of the stable’s most memorable.
