Gollan dominates at Doomben

THE Tony Gollan Stable dominated the TAB George Moore Stakes meeting on Saturday, claiming four out of the ten races at Doomben, including three features.

Zoustyle, a horse long regarded by Gollan as one of the best he’s ever trained, notched his first Group race success when leading from go to whoa in the Group 3 George Moore.

He remains unbeaten in Queensland and will now chase a Magic Millions wildcard when he runs in the Falvelon at Doomben on Boxing Day.

Miami Fleiss, in the prominent colours of Brian Seimsen’s Black Soil Bloodstock, landed her maiden black type win thanks to a brilliant Stephanie Thornton ride in the Listed Eureka Stud Classic.

Before that pair, Tambo’s Mate backed up from a tough effort in Sydney a week earlier to win the Listed Tattersall’s Recognition Stakes.

Last month he had won the Listed Keith Noud at Doomben.

Exciting two-year-old Capital Tower laid the Gollan platform for the day, making it two from two when a heavily backed winner of the two-year-old event in the opening race on the card.

Fellow Eagle Farm trainer Chris Munce broke the Gollan sequence when Rhapsody Rose fended off Putontheredlight to win the Listed Mode Stakes.

Earlier in the day it was all about Country racing coming to the City with Finals of the Country Cups Challenge and Country Stampede.

The combination of David Reynolds and Wendy Peel proved lethal in the Country Cups Challenge, just as they did in the Battle of the Bush Final last June. Six-year-old mare Rather Salubrious was snubbed a little by the market, but showed why she was assessed 10 rating points superior to every other horse in the field by lumping the big weight with ease.

V J Day was one of three runners in the Country Stampede Final for St George trainer Pat Webster. Les ‘Bubba’ Tilley picked up the ride when Gary Geran opted for stablemate Patented and made the most of the opportunity, before dedicating the win to Chris Caserta, who tragically lost his life in a swimming accident on the Gold Coast last week.

The other races on the card were claimed by Gypsy Goddess (David Vandyke), Far Too Easy (David McColm) and So You Win (Chris Waller) with jockeys James Orman, Stephanie Thornton, Brad Stewart and Ryan Maloney all riding doubles.

This week provides punters with back-to-back racedays, as Brisbane Racing Club hosts Christmas Twilight Raceday and Roku Gin The Gateway Raceday across Friday and Saturday.
