High Hopes for Hightail this Winter

Team Snowden-trained three-year-old Hightail’s winter may be shaped by his performance in the Gold Coast Guineas at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Peter Snowden who trains in partnership with his son Paul confirmed the stable has sent Hightail and stablemate Jen Rules (Silk Stocking) north this week. Ryan Maloney will ride both horses.

Hightail was good first up winning on the Kensington track on May 2 when he settled well off the speed but came wide with strong finish.

It was his first start since finishing fourth behind superstar Alligator Blood in the Magic Millions Guineas over 1400 metres at the Gold Coast in January.

At least that experience on the Coast circuit will be to his advantage this Saturday.

“I’ve never thought of him as a Group 1 horse but the Stradbroke this year might be in our thoughts if he really stood up at his next two starts in Queensland,’’ Peter Snowden said.

“He’s come back very well this campaign as he showed in his first up win.

“I expect him to be competitive this week. He’ll then run in the Fred Best Classic again against his own age at Doomben in a fortnight.’’

The Group 1 Stradbroke is set at Eagle Farm a week after the Fred Best so Hightail will need to impress Snowden in the next two runs.

Jen Rules also was resuming when she finished a game second to the in-form Snitz at Randwick on April 18.

Snitz followed up by winning the Takeover Target Stakes at Randwick last Saturday.
