Honours shared at Doomben

A large crowd gathered yesterday at Doomben Racecourse for AICLA’s sixth annual Charity Raceday.

Canapes, fashion, prizes, raffles and quality racing were the themes of the day with all proceeds from AICLA’s function to be donated to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The sharing nature of the charity event spilled out on to the track with seven different trainers and jockeys sharing the spoils across the day.

Pentito, Euromantic and Volunteer all notched their maiden victories in highly competitive affairs and those closest in their wakes are likely to break through for success very soon too. The veteran Glen Ord wound back the clock to sink favourite backers when he gunned down Montez.

The later races produced winning performances that look sure to evolve into Saturday wins with a trio of impressive winners.

The Jake Capewell trained Sir Warwick blitzed the clock under Jim Byrne over the 1200m course, continuing an unblemished entry into Queensland racing.

The four-year-old son of Written Tycoon put five-and-three-quarter lengths on his nearest rival to claim his third successive victory since joining the stable.

Neutron was another dominant winner, stepping up from provincial level to take out the penultimate race of the day by three-and-a-half lengths for trainer Kacy Fogden and Premiership winning jockey Ryan Maloney.

Rounding out the day, Matt Dunn’s promising gelding King Charming made it two from two after staving off the challenge of Evan Almighty in the straight under the 2019-20 Premiership winning rider Baylee Nothdurft.

Both Maloney and Nothdurft will be looking to continue their winning form during the Brisbane Spring Racing Carnival presented by Lexus, which kicks off this Saturday with the XXXX Queensland Cup Raceday.
