Incentivise breaks through for maiden Group 1

Stradbroke Season discovery Incentivise firmed his Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup favouritism this weekend with a gritty all the way win in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes.

First up after his 12 lengths romp in the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup at Eagle Farm in June, the five-year-old gelding jumped straight to the front and put paid to a field boasting nine individual Group 1 winners.

By doing so, the now Peter Moody trained galloper secured his first Group 1 victory, going from a Caloundra Maiden win to the Group 1 in a seven-race winning streak.

It highlighted another brilliant day for horses that competed at Eagle Farm and Doomben during Stradbroke season, with J.J. Atkins minor placegetters Giannis and Tiger Of Malay fighting out the Listed Dulcify Stakes at Kembla Grange and setting themselves up for a tilt at Group 1 riches.

At Flemington, Ranch Hand lived up to the promise he showed in Queensland during the carnival to take out the Listed Poseidon Stakes. Group 2 Bobbie Lewis winner Splintex was also a Stradbroke season competitor, having finished close up in the Doomben 10,000 in May.

The BRC’s Nathan Exelby recently caught up with Incentivise’s breeder, part-owner and former trainer Steve Tregea. Watch below to find out more about the star galloper, who you’ll be seeing a lot more of this Spring.
