O’Dea-Hoysted pair treat rivals with Contempt

THE Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted stable had a day out at Eagle Farm on Wednesday, leading in a pair of winners that look likely to reach greater heights.

Single Memo pictured above, a graduate of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, made an impressive debut in the BRC Membership Maiden Plate, winning by more than two lengths under Jaden Lloyd and posting a slick 58.34 for the 1000m.

The daughter of Not A Single Doubt had trialled at Doomben late last month and Hoysted said she was a filly that had always shown her share of talent.

It seems likely we will see her in Saturday grade soon enough.

Later Contemptuous set aside some poor luck with barriers in recent weeks to run out a dominant winner of the XXXX Dry Class 3 Handicap (1000m).

Contemptuous, who races in the colours of Jamie Walter’s Proven Thoroughbreds, had raced very well first up behind subsequent Listed placegetter Tramonto, but had not raced for 32 days after being scratched off wide barriers in recent weeks.

Instead, O’Dea and Hoysted sent the five-year-old back to the trials, where he ran out a dominant winner.

Hoysted believes Contemptuous is well up to Saturday standard and that’s where he’s likely to head next.

It was a quinella for the O’Dea-Hoysted and Proven combination, with Better Get Set making a pleasing return to racing in running second.

Later, Galaxy Belle continued her purple patch of form when she proved far too good for her rivals in the Benchmark 65 Handicap (1800m).

The Kris Lees-trained mare has now won four of her past five starts.

Another in-form mare is Kelly Schweida’s Sienna’s Choice.

The daughter of Love Conquers All had won just one of her first 15 starts, but Schweida has turned the corner with her this time in and after a big last start win at Ipswich, she proved too good again in the Class 2 Handicap (1400m) under Jim Byrne.
