New Director Appointed to Brisbane Racing Club Board

Thursday, 22 March 2018

Dear Members

I am pleased to advise you that the BRC has finalised the recruitment process for our new Director.

We have appointed Jennifer Creaton to the role, replacing outgoing Director John Shepherd. You may have seen Jennifer at the races in the four years since she moved to Brisbane from Melbourne. She has been a regular at BRC meetings and brings to the board a wealth of knowledge in racing and in her corporate background.

We received strong interest in the Board vacancies and we thank the 16 Members who completed expressions of interest. The quality of candidates was excellent. We engaged corporate governance experts Directors Australia to assist with the recruitment process. Directors Australia had previously completed a Board evaluation to determine the most desirable skills among the applicants. A sub-committee of Directors and a representative from Directors Australia interviewed a shortlist of four candidates before the final appointment was made. The four candidates who were interviewed were outstanding and their qualities made the decision difficult.

However, we appointed Jennifer for several reasons including her extensive experience in risk management. Her knowledge will be valuable to the BRC as we continue to grow the Club through our $1.5 billion Master Plan. Jennifer has worked in the financial services industry for almost 20 years. Jennifer currently works as an executive manager for an ASX-listed banking and insurance group in the implementation of risk frameworks and ensuring that decisions, processes and procedures are performed within legislative and regulatory requirements. Jennifer also has an impressive background in the hospitality and events field, including key roles in community festivals and as part of community forums. She has owned racehorses and understands the importance of racing within the BRC’s history and future.

“I am honoured to join the board of such a well-established Club,” Ms Creaton said. “The BRC is at an exciting stage of its history and I welcome the chance to contribute to these important next steps for the Club. I look forward to seeing Members at the races in the coming months especially as we get ready for the Channel 7 Brisbane Racing Carnival.”

Please join me in congratulating Jennifer and thanking all applicants who participated in the recruitment process.

Yours sincerely
