Racing Legends Join Forces to Support Abbie Sweeper

Monday, 21 December 2020

The Brisbane Racing Club has partnered with Sky Thoroughbred Central on the new Summer Racing Legends television series all in support of a very important cause.

The series sees trainers, jockeys and other sport identities, including Jeff Horn, compete in a ‘Ninja Warriors’ style course, vying for cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights for the title of Summer Racing Legends.

The show raises money for 11-year-old Abbie Sweeper, who tragically became a tetraplegic when she fell from a horse in July last year. The young horse lover now requires constant medical attention, coming at a large cost.

To help further raise awareness for Abbie and her family, the Abbie Sweeper Handicap race was run on Saturday at Doomben, which legendary Group One winning jockey Glen Boss took out on Pull Anchor. Abbie watched on excitedly at Doomben alongside her dad, Russell.

In conjunction with North Queensland trainer, Bonnie Thomson, Abbie designed a set of her own colours which were worn in most races last Saturday, including Luke Dittman on Veranes in Abbie’s race.

Tune into Summer Racing Legends on The Playbook on Sky Thoroughbred Central on Thursday nights after Formline at 7.30pm in QLD and 8.30pm in NSW (Check local guides).
