Racing newcomers on show at Doomben

Saturday’s Doomben meeting is an exciting one for racing fans with the first two-year-old race of the season kicking off a nine race card.

The Pierata at Aquis 2YO Plate will see 12 first time gallopers compete in the hotly contested $75,000 race.

With eight of the nominated runners (including emergencies) stepping out in recent Doomben trials, this will be a test of how the two-year-olds handle race conditions and a guide to which are capable of bigger and better things.

Race sponsor Aquis have 16 stallions standing at Aquis Farm including Pierata who won over $5.8million in prizemoney and defeated 42 individual Group 1 winners during his career.

Other notable Aquis stallions include Spieth and The Mission who have their respective progeny Acotango and The Missionary racing for the first time in this race.

Brisbane Racing Club partner Eureka Stud are also credited with two runners in the 2YO plate, Palazzo Spirit and Ninetynine Not Out both the product of champion Queensland sire Spirit of Boom.

The BRC would like to wish all connections with new season starters the best of luck in their racing careers.
