Wednesday 16 March transferred from Doomben to Eagle Farm

Racing Queensland has approved the transfer of the midweek metropolitan fixture set down for Doomben on Wednesday, March 16 to Eagle Farm Racecourse.

Doomben was not able to have its annual spring break due to additional meetings being scheduled from October 26 through until March.

After an extremely wet spring and summer, this period will allow Doomben a much needed break leading into the Saturday March 26 meeting and ensure the track is also at its best for the Group One meetings during Stradbroke Season presented by TAB.

The rail moves at Eagle Farm allow for an additional midweek meeting and with the progress of the track over the 12 week break, officials are comfortable adding this meeting to the schedule with a rail position that is acceptable for midweek field capacities.

With the recent movements of a number of meetings, this move will provide some certainty around a grass track meeting should the weather pattern continue.

The transfer has necessitated the need for some minor race distance changes on March 16:

  • Benchmark 70 Handicap - was 1350m, is now 1400m;
  • Benchmark 65 Handicap - was 1050m, is now 1000m; and
  • 3yo Benchmark 65 Handicap - was 1050m, is now 1000m.
