Wednesday Wrap-up - Eagle Farm 3 August, 2022

The first Eagle Farm meeting of the 2022-23 racing season has been run and won with a seven-race card held at Headquarters on Wednesday.

Three-kilogram claimer Angela Jones impressed in the city, clinching her first metropolitan riding double, with wins aboard Love’s A Riddle (Tony Gollan) and Magic Charlee (Mark Currie).

Love’s A Riddle’s victory marked a successful start to the Trainer Premiership defence for Gollan, who last season won the top honour for a ninth consecutive year.

It didn’t take long for Jockey Premiership winner James Orman to launch his own title defence, securing a one-length victory on the Chris Waller trained Podium.

The previous year’s premiership winner, Ryan Maloney, notched his first winner since returning from knee surgery, scoring aboard Bercandleni (Les Kelly) in the Sky Racing BM70 Handicap.

The Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted stable also kicked off the new season nicely, claiming victories with Prince Shalaa (Boris Thornton) and Fetch (Ben Thompson).

The Alan Robinson-trained Bundyandcoke won the last race of the day by more than three lengths thanks to a perfectly timed ride from Tegan Harrison.

Saturday Metropolitan racing for the 2022-23 season begins this weekend at Doomben Racecourse.
